Delivering Danger in Cudworth

Some take-away delivery drivers in Cudworth are potentially putting pedestrians and other road users at risk by flouting the law.

I have no doubt that the majority of take-away delivery drivers are law abiding citizens and considerate road users, but recent observations in Cudworth would suggest some aren't.

The most pertinent transgression was observed in the early evening yesterday.

The delivery driver's car in question parked over the zig-zag markings on several occasions while awaiting the next delivery.

These markings are in place to ensure visibility of oncoming traffic is maintained while using the safety crossing.

The Highway Code provides:

"191

You MUST NOT park on a crossing or in the area covered by the zig-zag lines."

Parking over the zig-zags can carry a fine and penalty points.

"As parking on white zig zag lines puts pedestrians at risk, police will almost always issue a FPN without exceptions. Unlike yellow zig zag lines, there are no exceptions to stopping on white zig zag lines (other than to wait for pedestrians). The Fixed Penalty Notice issued by the police is £100 with 3 penalty points."

It may not be ideal for the drivers, and those waiting for their supper to arrive may not be supportive of this suggestion, but ample free parking is available just a few short metres away which provides a legal alternative to the current practices employed by some drivers.

I'd love to know your thoughts.
